A Historic Speech Ignites a Spark
Did you know that Sri Aurobindo himself visited Uttarpara in 1909? On May 30th of that year, he delivered a powerful speech at the Uttarpara Jaykrishna Public Library ground. This wasn’t just any speech; it was a historic moment where Sri Aurobindo, for the first time, publicly shared his spiritual awakening – the “Vasudev Darshan” he experienced while imprisoned. This speech marked a significant shift in his life’s path towards spirituality.
A Community Inspired: The Birth of Uttarpara Sri Aurobindo Parishad
Fast forward to 1972, the year celebrating Sri Aurobindo’s birth centenary. Inspired by his teachings, a group of prominent Uttarpara citizens decided to establish an organization dedicated to his legacy. Thus, the Uttarpara Sri Aurobindo Birth Centenary Committee was born.
A Transformation and a Continued Mission
Over time, the Birth Centenary Committee had fulfilled its purpose. In 1991, it transformed into the Uttarpara Sri Aurobindo Parishad we know today. Our mission remains the same – to generate awareness and educate the public about the life, works, and philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
